Breast Reduction

This is a reconstructive procedure the goal of which is to decrease back, neck and shoulder pain, which often accompany overly large breasts. These women not only suffer from chronic pain in the upper torso, but also often have mastodynia (breast pain), skin rashes under the breast (intertrigo) and postural changes that cause slumping forward and rounding of the shoulders.

In some extremely severe cases, alteration in nerve function in the upper extremities can be experienced. Most women with very large breasts are also "motion restricted", in that they cannot exercise properly or run. The good news is that breast reduction surgery can address and alleviate all of these problems. Also, there are some other very positive factors to consider:

  • Patients usually experience only minimal discomfort in the immediate post-operative period as muscle or bone is not cut. This is therefore NOT a painful surgery.
  • The appearance of the breast is markedly improved in that it is elevated to a more youthful and cosmetically appealing position. The matronly look is gone.

Of all the procedures Plastic Surgeons do, Breast Reduction is one of the most satisfying to both the patient and the physician.
