Is Cosmetic Surgery “Vanity Surgery”?
My grand mother felt that cosmetic surgery was “sheer vanity” and, considering the times that she lived in, I agree. Essentially, there were no antibiotics, anesthesia was primitive and dangerous, and cosmetic surgical techniques were in their infancy.
Luckily, things have changed. Antibiotics are safe and dependable and anesthesia is extremely predictable and very safe. Also, cosmetic surgical techniques and procedures have been refined to the point where excellence is the rule rather than the exception.
As an example, consider two houses:
House # 1 is attractively painted, lawn and shrubs neatly manicured and overall is ‘picture perfect’. House # 2 needs painted, the lawn is overgrown and filled with weeds, a window is broken and the screen door is off its hinges. You don’t have to meet the inhabitants of either house to know something about their character, values and personality. Houses need attention & upkeep... so do humans. Why would you do less for your own appearance? Just like a house, your appearance says a lot about who you are. Cosmetic surgery today is safe, effective, predictable and should no longer be considered dangerous or ‘vanity surgery’, for only the few.
Cosmetic surgery is now an effective and customary means of “body upkeep and maintenance”. You can safely improve the way you look at yourself and the way the rest of the world sees you. Cosmetic surgery is no longer about sheer vanity , but is now a Quality of Life issue that can make a beautiful change in your world.
Anesthesia and the thought of going to sleep scares me. Are there any options?
Yes, today there are many options, where surgical procedures can be done without general anesthesia. Many procedures, including extensive body contouring, can be done “in the office” with patients fully awake and comfortable. The benefits are, not only comfort and safety, but significant cost savings can be achieved as well. For all procedures done in the office, there are no anesthesia fees and no expensive hospital or facility fees.
Can I afford Cosmetic Surgery in this down economy?
Economic concerns are on everyone’s mind and the potential expense of a surgical procedure is no small consideration. However, today most procedures can be done in the office with tremendous cost savings. The procedures are safe and effective with, in most cases, little or no “down time” and a rapid return to work and normal activities. Cosmetic surgery should, therefore, be viewed as an “investment in yourself”, an enhancement to your life and an expansion to your horizons.
In the last few years, I gained some weight and fat in areas that I find impossible to get rid of even though I diet and exercise. Can anything be done?
Dr. Blome has a national reputation for excellence in Liposuction and Body Sculpting and, in fact, teaches two courses to other plastic surgeons from all over the Unites States and from foreign countries.
There are many options today that are safe, comfortable and cost effective. Whether it’s Traditional Liposuction (SAL), Laser Liposuction (LAL or Smart Lipo), Power Assisted Liposuction (PAL) or Ultrasonic (Vasar) Liposuction (UAL), the procedures can significantly improve you appearance, both in and out of clothing. Depending upon your individual needs, it is quite common to see dress sizes for women decreasing from sizes 12-14 to size 6. (Please view the pre- & post-op photographs for Liposuction & Body Contouring).
Many of the body contouring procedures can be completed in the office with safety, predictably good results and large cost savings.
